Bail and Bond

Without unnecessary delay, the police must bring a person under arrest to a magistrate or judge to address bail.  Bail is a person’s pledge, sometimes involving money or property, to return to court once released from police custody.  (§19.2-80  A person under arrest is statutorily entitled to bail unless there is probable cause to believe that he is a flight risk, a danger to the community, or if he is charged with certain serious felony offenses.  (§19.2-120
